Skiing and Snowboarding

The nearest ski slopes are at La Mongie, approximately 20 - 30 minutes drive from La Maison Tranquille, depending on weather conditions. It is advisable to ensure you have snow chains, at the height of the ski season it is often prohibited to drive up to the ski resort without chains. There is a ski bus service although this is about 5 minutes walk from the house, alternatively we offer a personal transfer service to and from the resort. There are numerous other resorts within an hours drive and of course you can always drive over to the Spanish Pyrenees to ring the changes, although you will have to go around the mountains rather than over them!

The facilities at La Mongie are excellent and we have enjoyed fantastic skiing over the last three winters, excellent ski conditions with mainly dry, sunny days. The ski season starts in December and runs through to mid to late April. The quietest time is just before Christmas, and the busiest from Boxing Day onward for a week or two. Further details on the La Mongie resort are given below, the ski services we offer are set out on the right.

Ski Resorts

Barages - La Mongie

A combined ski resort covering 20 kilometres with 69 pistes, 43 lifts, 172 snow cannons and 5 restaurants on the slopes, there are also numerous restaurants, cafes, and shops at the bottom of the slopes in the main resort area. The two resorts are linked by Col-de-Tourmalet, we recommend taking the ski lift to Col-de-Tourmalet around about lunch time so you can enjoy the tranditional restaurant at the top, the slope down from Tourmalet to Barèges is brilliant fun and I always manage to take a tumble on this section, I'm sure its nothing to do with the wine enjoyed at lunch time!!
